Details
This Byrdland was made by Gibson in Kalamazoo in 1969. It’s in fine structural condition and very good cosmetic condition. Its original finish has almost no crazing and the sunburst shows very little fading. It still has its Kluson Sealfast tuning machines, bridge and tailpiece. The frets are also original, but they are quite low and are still playable. The original pickguard decomposed and the outgassing caused some pitting and plating loss to the pickup covers.
Happily, it didn’t affect the Patent Number Humbuckers. There is a small patch of replaced binding on the headstock on the bass side near the truss rod cover. It has a rounded, Venetian cutaway, the first year that Gibson reintroduced the style, but it has a laminated back like the earlier models with pointed, Florentine cutaways. The original case is long gone, but it has a recent vintage case that fits well. There is a very slight musty whiff, which suggests that this guitar was stored in a humid climate.
