The Northfield EleOcto is a lightweight electric octave mandolin. While it looks like it’s a solid body, it is in fact chambered and has an Adirondack spruce top and nicely figured maple sides and back. This keeps the weight down and gives the instrument a warmer, rounder tone when amplified. This variation of the EleOcto is fitted with a pair of pickups: a magnetic Seymaour Duncan Apollo II humbucker and Northfield’s own Kapsule piezo pickup. The Kapsule is a unique multi-piezo design that is centered at the end of the fingerboard extension and set in a chamber, carved between the spruce top and maple body. It has a separate volume control making it possible to blend the different pickup tones. Both pickups are run to a stereo jack (cable included, but also can be run mono with a standard cable) making it possible to split and send the output to different amps or to a PA.
