Pisgah’s Wonder is an homage to the Little Wonder, Vega’s workhorse model from the early part of the 20th century. The maple shell is fitted with a Little Wonder tone ring, a lightweight design that adds a bit of clarity to the tone without getting too bright. This example has a 12” head, which gives the banjo an extra dose of woodiness. The Wonder sports a number of subtle cosmetic elements that give the banjo a fancy but not flashy look. The headstock has an elegant silhouette with an inlaid marquetry star. The metal hardware has an aged brass finish and we’re particular taken with the J.B. Schall-style ball shoes that support the hooks and nuts. The maple neck has a dark stain and the Richlite fretboard has a frailing scoop.
