Details
Collings OM models just don't get any better than this one which is approaching its 23rd birthday. It was purchased from Gryphon when new, and has spent the years 'tween then and now in a climate-controlled home barely a mile away. It has been played, but only the light fret wear under B and high E strings is proof of that as this player takes the term "careful" to the highest level. The only change is to the end pin, as it had an early Fishman pickup years ago.
Speaking of high levels, the woods Collings chose for this OM is triple A Brazilian, dark and straight-grained except for swirls at the outer edge of the lower bout, plus an Adirondack top that's equally exceptional. Yet the biggest smiles come when you play it, as this OM has the warmth and depth of tone you just don't expect from this model (the basses could almost fool you into thinking it was a Dreadnought), but it still has the sparkle in the trebles that Collings OMs are known for. Original case is equally clean.
