Details
This Red Valley AMW Mandolin was crafted by James Wilson in his workshop in Boise, Idaho. The top is sitka spruce and the back and sides are walnut. The neck is mahogany and the fretboard is ebony. The AMW has a satin finish and a very simple appearance but the robust tone more than makes up for the lack of fanciness. The W in the model code refers to its larger body, which is wider across the lower bout than Red Valley’s standard mandolin. The body is also a bit deeper. The combination of the bigger body and the walnut back and sides produces a round, warm tone with a more pronounced low end than a usual mandolin.
