Details
This 1937 Dobro Model 37 Squareneck is in excellent structural and cosmetic condition and is one of the cleanest examples Gryphon has offered. The top, sides and back are made from a light-colored hardwood, most likely birch, and finished to look like mahogany with a subtle sunburst. The metal hardware is quite clean and untarnished. All of the hardware appears to be original except for the tuning machines which are new Golden Age Restorations.
It was made around 1937, but as fans of these vintage resonator guitars know, dating Dobros is more of an art than a science. The serial number is A3878, which which is the format used after Dobro moved to Chicago, but it has a square rather than a tapered heel, which is the hallmark of guitars built in Dobro’s California workshop. It's likely the body was built in Chicago, where pretty much all their post-1936 guitars were made, and the neck was shipped from California. None of that really matters, though, because this is a great sounding Dobro in fine original condition, which is a hard thing to find. It comes with a Calton case which is in equally clean condition.
