Details
This restored Weissenborn teardrop came from Tony Francis, a Weissenborn -style luthier and restoration expert from New Zealand (it's telling that a Tony Francis Weissenborn sells for about the same price as an original). Francis purchased this example to inform his own versions, and after the restoration it was sold to James Williamson (guitarist for the Stooges many years ago).
These teardrop Weissenborns are extremely rare, less than 40 are known to have survived. Williamson is a serious slide player, and this one shows wear from the steel to the new finish on and around the fingerboard, plus light wear from fingerpicks to the face. Along with the new finish, the tuners were also replaced. The restoration was done about 20 years ago. This is a fantastic sounding Weissenborn for the slide player, made even more versatile by the custom LR Baggs M1 pickup. Comes in a Cedar Creek hardshell case made for the body shape.
