Details
This Collings MF5 was crafted in Austin, Texas in 2024. It’s in excellent, lightly played condition although there is a small ding in the top on the bass side. The frets just show a hint of wear. The MF5 features a full-gloss finish, ivoroid bound body, neck and headstock and a seasoned Adirondack Spruce top with Eastern Maple back and sides with some particularly intense figure.
As with all Collings instruments, the fit and finish is impeccable. This mandolin has a powerful bark with the kind of projection that you can hear in even the loudest bluegrass jam session. But when you back off a bit, the MF5 has a sweet, expressive tone that works well for jazz, Celtic or any other style you might put your hand to.
Thanks to the radiused fretboard, this mandolin is a joy to play. This mandolin looks great from a distance but the closer you get, the more you can see the detail and care that have earned Collings the reputation for crafting some of the finest mandolins being made today. Includes the original hardshell case, which is in equally clean condition.
