Details
This Custom Taylor was designed by our own Paul Jacobs. Here's what he has to say about it: I wanted a guitar that had vintage features like a slotted headstock and a 12-fret neck, but with modern playability. I like the way a sunburst makes the figure in maple stand out, so I had Taylor do one in a satin finish. The 12-frets-clear design puts the bridge closer to the middle of the soundboard, which produces a rich, open tone and gives you more volume for its size. It also brings your left hand closer to your body, which makes this easier to hold and play. It’s a great guitar for tucking under your arm when songwriting, or playing in a comfy chair.
About Gryphon’s Aged Maple: The back and sides were milled from big slabs of figured maple Gryphon's co-founders bought fifty years ago when they were making a lot of banjo necks. This was before the retail store was opened, and once that happened repairs and restoration quickly put most building projects on the back burner, where they stayed as demand for repairs changed Gryphon's direction. This maple has been stored in Gryphon's attic ever since, but Andy Powers and the crew at Taylor has helped us finally put it to good use.
