Northfield’s Artist Series mandolins are built with meticulous attention to detail from the finest tonewoods. This particular example has a carved Engelmann spruce top and Northfields’s 5-bar bracing system, a unique variation on the classic two tone-bar configuration. We find the 5-bar bracing produces is very responsive mandolin with a strong fundamental with a focused, sparkling upper register. The finish is spirit varnish which is softer and more flexible than nitrocellulose lacquer. Playability is enhanced with a fully radiused fretboard.The Artist Series mandolins were developed with extensive input from Mike Marshall, are produced in limited numbers and never stick around for long. Includes Northfield’s Airloom Recurve hardshell case.
