Details
The 814ce has long been a favorite among the customers and staff here at Gryphon and it has earned its place as Taylor’s flagship model. Its Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood pairing is a classic tonewood combination and the Grand Auditorium body shape responds equally well to delicate fingerpicking and robust strumming making it a versatile guitar. You might think it would be hard to improve on this modern classic but the new Builder’s Edition 814ce adds some very enticing features that do indeed make this good thing even better.
First, the Sitka spruce top has been upgraded to Adirondack spruce, a change that adds extra definition and clarity to the 814ce’s already rich timbre. It also has a beveled mahogany armrest, which greatly increases the playing comfort of your strumming arm. Perhaps our favorite feature is the sculpted cutaway, which makes playing in the upper registers a breeze. It’s not only functional, it’s an elegant, and complex, feat of woodworking. Other refinements include a subtle adjustment in the taper of the body, a modified V-Class voicing, and Gotoh 510 tuners in antique gold, which offer a highly precise 21:1 gear ratio.
