National Reso-Phonic’s El Trovador is a faithful copy of the 1930’s original style, but it has welcome modern upgrades like an adjustable truss-rod and an ebony fingerboard. Most importantly, though, it is built to National’s high standards of fit and finish. Like the original Kay-built instruments, the new El Trovador has significantly deeper and curvier dimensions than other National’s other wooden models (4" deep compared to an M2's 3-3/16"), which gives it a bass response and warmth that you don't usually hear in resophonic guitars. Its mahogany body is purfled on all sides and bordered by ivoroid binding, and the resonator coverplate is surrounded by a four-layer ring of purflings. A very classy touch, and a nice way to offset the slightly aged nickel coverplate. Don Young, the co-founder of National Reso-phonic, said that the El Trovador was his favorite wooden guitar out of all the models they made, and when you play this guitar, you might find that you agree.
