Details
The Larson Bros. made lots of guitars and mandolins sold under the Maurer trademark, including virtually all the instruments we include in the mandolin family. The No. 15 model is included in a surviving Maurer catalog, where it is described as having "sides and back of seasoned maple with rosewood finish." It's a testament to Carl & August Larson's skills that this example has survived nearly a century and is fully playable, needs no repairs, and doesn't show any signs of ever needing more than a minor adjustment. It's original throughout, showing only minor playing wear, and has a warm patina to the shellac varnish finish. It's easy to play and has a bright, sparkling tone.
At least one of the keys to its survival has been the excellent hardshell case that has accompanied and protected it over the years.
