Details
Introduced in 1997, Martin's "SP" 16 Series brought upgraded appointments to what had been models with very modest details. Along with the pearl rosette, Style 45 backstrip, and snowflake inlays, Martin began adding upgraded woods in 2000, and this SPD-16K is a prime example of the highly figured koa Martin had available, at least for a brief while (and not all SP-16K models had koa this figured and colorful).
This example has only very light fret wear, with playing wear restricted to pickguard scuffing. There are some deep, dull scratches to the finish on the face around the treble-side bridge tip, probably from something hard that got loose in the case (like a capo or a tuner). This is a loud guitar with lots of punch and power, and plenty of bass response that's balanced with ringing trebles. If the top dings bother you, be comforted by checking how much you'd pay for koa this nice on a custom order!
