Details
This early '50s SJ has seen lots of repairs over the years, but that classic Gibson slope-shoulder tone is all there with the volume and mid-range "whomp" that has made these models famous, especially among rhythm guitarists. Here's a summary of what's been done:
Complete refinish of body and neck, and neck has been reset and refretted. Bridge and bridge plate have been replaced but original scalloped X bracing were preserved. Back has been replaced with Gibson Montana SJ mahogany back with appropriate multi-ply binding as per the original. This SJ must have seen some hard times if the back had to be replaced, but the top and sides don't show any cracks, suggesting that a catastrophic event took out the back but didn't cause other damage.
The Z prefix Factory Order Number on the neck block indicates the 1952 date as these models, at least at this time, were not given serial numbers.
Comes in an excellent Gibson Montana hardshell case and there's a Baggs Anthem SL pickup installed which works well.
